“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal.  But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.  For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.   Matthew 6:19-21 (NIV) 

Worldly treasures won’t last.  Beautiful clothes are eaten by moths, rust corrodes precious metals and expensive possessions are stolen by thieves. Jesus teaches us in His Sermon on the Mount to invest in treasures that last- backed by a God whose guarantee can’t be broken.  How?  By giving money, a tithe and offerings, sure, but more than that, you store up treasures in heaven by using all that you are and all that you have for God’s glory.  God blesses us beyond anything we could ever earn or deserve by our acts of righteousness and obedience to him.

 “The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are good, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eyes are bad, your whole body will be full of darkness.  If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness!” Matthew 6:22-23 (NIV) 

Be clear about your commitment, your loyalty, and your dedication to God.  Keep your eyes focused on the Truth of God’s Word and His will for your life.  Live well for God’s glory.

 “No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money.”  Matthew 6:24 (NIV) 

And finally- choose Jesus.  You have to choose between God and money.  And money is appealing, it’s attractive.  It is nice to have money; it gives power and influence and offers choices.  But the desire for money can captivate us and draw us away from God.  Jesus says we have to choose who will be our Master- There isn’t room for both.
